A BOOK OF HOURS - Susan Bacon

A modern re-imagining of A Book of Hours – a beautifully illustrated book that guides both old and young through the journey of life. The artist Susan Bacon has conceived of a new Book of Hours, inspired by the centuries-old tradition of these cherished prayer books. These jewel-like volumes, never two the same, presented the laity with a way to devotion – a Companion for Life. This book, with observations of the natural world, follows that historic legacy – marking one’s own time. It is not exclusively Christian, but rather suggests an awareness of the living world that we share together with the creatures who inhabit it. “A Book of Hours was a treasured personal devotional that created windows into heaven. In this contemporary version, Susie Bacon has collected favourite prayers and reflections to help us pay attention to the beauty of God’s creation. Through her illustrations, we notice, like Jesus, the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. In doing so, our hearts join nature’s song of praise and a window opens into the joyous creativity of God.” – The Rt Revd Graham Usher, Bishop of Norwich
