Contentious Performances - Tilly, Charles (Columbia University, New York)

Contentious Performances presents a logic and method for describing contentious events - occasions on which people publicly make consequential claims on each other. It shows how this logic provides a better explanation of the dynamics of such events, and uses examples from Great Britain between 1758 and 1834 to illustrate this method.
