Darling, There’s a Monitor Lizard in our Bed! - Martina Schneider Králová

A book that will entertain children and scare parents! Aggie and Chris built a house in Sri Lanka, and the animals decided they would share it with them. A monitor lizard crawls onto the bed, squirrels nest in a lamp, mice borrow Aggie’s knickers, peacocks strut through the living room, frogs live behind pictures on the wall, and Como the dog simply turned up and became the lady of the house. The animals do what they do and the people look on. The way they simply come and go as they please makes you wonder: whose home is it, in fact? Twelve stories based on real events, although some may have been ever-so-slightly embellished to make them more like fairy tales – or should that be furry tales? They are ideal for children and for reading aloud together. Some may be a little scary, but mainly they will make you laugh. At the end of each story there is a little quiz, so readers can guess whether certain events really happened or not. The answers are included in the book. The book also contains factual information about the animals that star in it, so the book can also serve as a guide to exotic animals. There is more to the world than what we’re used to – and there’s nothing wrong with that. Author and publisher Martina Schneider Králová based the book on her experiences with animals at her house in Sri Lanka. The book’s beautiful colour and design was the work of two artists who also know Sri Lanka: illustrator Veronika Velčovská Jiroušková and graphic designer Zuzana Lednická.
