Multiple Modernities - 1905 to 1970

The book focuses on the different connections existing between art and globalization, using of the inputs of modern and contemporary artists from all backgrounds, including Frida Kahlo, Tamara de Lempicka, René Magritte, de Chirico, Picabia, Álvarez Bravo, Otto Dix, Jackson Pollock, Roberto Matta, Goncharova... With a wide diversity of artists and origin backgrounds, the book embraces the complexity of the art period runnig from 1905 to 1970: from painting to photography and sculpture... The authors - curators and academics - who have contributed to this book analyze the complex and dynamic relationships between the concepts of universality and vernacular culture, purity and hybridity, inherent to modern art. Showing minglings and convergence between different arts, they also underline the interactions of modern art with traditional practices and non-artistic expressions.
