Paul I of Russia, 1754-1801 - McGrew, Roderick E. (Emeritus Professor of History, Emeritus Professor of History, Temple University, Philadelphia)

The first full modern biography of Paul I, son of Catherine the Great and Tsar of Russia, between 1796 and 1801, offers not only a portrait of a complex ruler and his times but also assesses the part played by Paul in establishing the deeply conservative political outlook which characterized Russia in the 19th century.
