Songs of Aristophanes - Parker, L. P. E. (Fellow and Tutor in Classics, Fellow and Tutor in Classics, St Hugh's College, Oxford)

Aristophanes' comedies were musical as much as dramatic performances. The nearest we can get to the scores is to study the rhythms and styles of his lyric verse. This book provides a long needed clear, systematic and fully accessible introduction to Aristophanes' lyric poetry and to Greek metre in general - showing how metre forms an integral part of Aristophanes' dramatic art and satire.
